I agreed to do an extra credit project on the 2008 Volkswagen Beetle, but as soon as I started, I knew I was swamped!
I need to know the new, used, and rebuilt costs of the following parts. If anyone has the answers, or could leave a link to a site with the answers, it would be much appreciated. :]
Engine Block
Transmission
Drive Shaft or CV Shaft
U-joint
Differential
Shock Absorbers
Coil Springs
Battery
Starter
Distributer
Spark Plugs
Alternator
Radiator
Radiator Hoses
Carburetor or Fuel Injectors
Fuel Tank
Gas Cap for Fuel Tank
Exhaust Pipe
Muffler
Catalytic Converter
Oil Filter
Brake Pads or Break Drums
Air Conditioning Compressor
Air Conditioner Evaporator
For used, you can look here:
http://www.pullapart.com/Pricing/Main.aspx
For new, you can go to websites like:
www.worldimpex.com
www.dieselgeek.com (will be specific to the diesel VWs)
www.autozone.com
Or, just call your local VW dealer and ask for the parts dept. Maybe split it into several calls, or call several dealers, just so you're not using up all of their time.
Another thing to consider is, new real VW parts, or new off-brand parts. The above websites will list some of both.
No idea on remanufactured. And the concept of "remanufactured" probably doesn't make sense for everything above - for instance nobody would bother buying or selling a remanufactured gas cap.
Good luck, I hope you learn a lot in this project. Unfortunately, from the phone call to the dealer I had about an hour ago, I can tell you that for a 1999 diesel Jetta, a new fuel pump is $300 for the part + $212 for the labor, and a new diesel injection pump is around $2500.00 for parts and labor total! I'm not sure which of the two I need, but I am not a happy camper right now.
